457 Visas Abolished - Are You Affected? Everything You Need to Know! On 18 April 2017, the Australian Government announced that the subclass 457 will be abolished, and be replaced by the new Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa, which will begin in March 2018. Furthermore, changes have also been made to all Skilled Migrant and Employer Sponsored visas eligible list of occupations as well as pathways to permanent residency. Importantly, changes such as the new occupation lists took effect immediately, however future planned changes for both 1 July 2017 and March 2018 milestones will see pathways to permanent residency become more difficult for traditional applicants with the tightening of additional criteria.
